Namibia boasts the world's highest sand dunes and Africa's deepest canyon. It also offers rich rock art sites, diverse wildlife, and the oldest, driest desert in the world. Namibia's landscape is vast and magnificent, with each region possessing unique characteristics. It's a first-class safari destination with superb infrastructure and political stability. The Namibian economy relies heavily on tourism; the locals are warm and fun-loving. It's also an excellent self-drive destination for independent travelers.

The Etosha National Park is the country's flagship park and one of Africa's best such parks. A vast, shallow pan of silvery sand dominates it. In the dry season, thousands of animals gather to drink at the waterholes. It is as big as a small European nation and is home to over 114 species of large and small mammals, more than 400 bird species, and various reptile and fish species.

Sossusvlei is home to the highest sand dunes in the world and is Namibia's most outstanding scenic attraction. These dunes, part of the Namib Desert, have developed over millions of years and are continuously shaped by the wind. The dunes refract beautiful colors, ranging from burnt orange to red and deep mauve, making them a photographer's dream.

The Skeleton Coast, located northwest of the country, is a vast, harsh stretch of landscape. Even the people and wildlife have adapted accordingly. The tall and slender Himba rub their bodies with red ochre and fat to protect their skin from the climate.

Desert-adapted elephants have adapted to the environment and have large annual and seasonal ranges, a unique social structure, and daily activities.

Namibia is home to Africa's largest gorge, the Ai-Ais Hot Springs, a popular hiking spot. The Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon globally, and the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, a National Heritage Site, are also located here. Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are the resort towns that attract tourists and locals alike, offering a range of activities to enjoy. Namibia has over 40% of its land under conservation management, increasing the number of wildlife species, making it the greatest African wildlife recovery story ever told.

Uganda is renowned for having the highest density of primates in the world, including the endangered mountain gorilla and chimpanzee. However, there is much more to this country than just primates. Uganda boasts the source of the Nile River, which provides opportunities for exciting white-water rafting. Despite being a small country, Uganda offers diverse geographical features. It is home to Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, and Murchison Falls, the biggest national park in the country. The Victoria Nile flows into Lake Albert at Murchison Falls, home to many animals, such as elephants, lions, hippos, and Rothschild giraffes. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a mountainous rainforest with 340 gorillas and other animals. Kidepo Valley National Park is the only location in Uganda where you can visit. Find animals like cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, aardwolves, caracals, and greater and lesser kudus.

In addition to safaris, Uganda also offers many thrilling activities for adrenaline junkies. Climbing enthusiasts can summit the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, the highest in Uganda. Mt. Elgon is a less technical and easier climb, while the Virunga Volcanoes require more rugged climbing but offer the chance to see gorillas and rare bird species. Sport fishing is also popular, as one-third of the country is covered in water.

 

Uganda is not typically the first choice for safari destinations due to the challenges of traveling there. However, the rewards are well worth it as the country offers breathtaking landscapes, ecosystems, over 1000 bird species, volcanic geology, tropical forests, lakes, and beautiful savannahs.

Rwanda, the Land of a Thousand Hills

The main reason for visiting Rwanda is to see gorillas. This country is working hard to overcome its dark past and has become a prime example of the positive effects of responsible eco-tourism on communities, habitats, and wildlife. Rwanda is a natural choice for those seeking "To find some of the rarest and most fascinating primates in the world." Its geography is characterized by the "The Land of a Thousand Hills" and the Virunga volcanoes. Visitors can pay tribute to the late and legendary scientist, as well as gorilla advocate, Dian Fossey. by visiting her tomb or by taking a guided trek to see the endangered mountain gorillas she loved and studied.

 

The bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park are also home to the playful golden monkeys. The lakeside town of Rubavu is located an hour away from the volcanoes on the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa's great bodies of water. Its crystal-clear waters are perfect for water activities or relaxing on its beaches. Adventurers can take the Congo Nile Trail, a popular 141-mile hiking and biking trek, from here. The area is also renowned for its agro-tourism and tea and coffee plantations. In southwest Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park is a pristine mountain rainforest known for its chimpanzees and bird-watching.
